The Largest Black Hole Discovered So Far

Reuters, EarthSky, and other sources recently reported the discovery of a gargantuan black hole, the largest discovered as of yet. How large is it? Well, this black hole is estimated to be 12 billion times larger than the Sun, challenging recent black hole growth rate theories! Created less than a billion years after the Big Bang, this black hole is located in the center of a bright quasar known in the scientific astronomer community as SDSS J0100+2802. SDSS J0100+2802 is another remarkable cosmic object, being the brightest quasar discovered by astronomers yet. It is so bright that it matches the brightness of 420 trillion Suns!
